The Porch at Christie’s Story
From the day Christie’s opened its doors in 1926, one thing remained the same, Christie’s was the go-to spot in the Westport community. With the inviting Porch on the front of the store, it became a place for the community to meet, buy local foods and treat themselves to a delicious ice cream from the adorable ice cream hut.
Our Vision Today
As the new owners, we want to keep all that is wonderful while putting our own new spin on it and making sure this spot is around for the next generation to enjoy.
As long time Westport residents, we have always appreciated the history of the original community store and knew we needed to pay it homage. We are honored to now be the owners of The Porch at Christie’s. We want to continue what Christie's started and become a place for the community to gather and enjoy a good meal. We want to become a place to welcome neighbors and people visiting Westport for the first time, a place for builders, contractors and landscapers passing by on Cross Highway and a place for students from all of the area schools to meet up.
We will offer delicious breakfast items, lunch specialties such as salads, paninis and flatbreads, as well as many choices for dinners to go. There will be weekend brunch items, specialty coffees, smoothies, fresh baked goods and the reopening of the ice cream hut.
Our Purpose with Sweet P Bakery
In early 2020, we founded the non-profit Sweet P Bakery in Norwalk. Sweet P is dedicated to providing job training and employment for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In early November, we had our very first graduating class from our Baking 1 – Foundations class. What has been missing is the employment part of our mission. This has all changed now with the soon to be opening of The Porch. Sweet P Bakery will supply the majority of the amazing baked treats served at The Porch at Christie’s. This will allow us to employ many of the graduates of the Sweet P Baking programs to bake alongside our 2 amazing pastry chefs. We will also employ additional Sweet P staff working in front of house operations at The Porch. We can’t think of a more perfect spot in town to support Sweet P Bakery’s mission.
Follow our Progress
At Sweet P Bakery we always say we’re all about the letter P. So here it goes!
We invite you to follow our renovation progress on social media. When we open in the spring, please support our mission of community and purpose by visiting The Porch at Christie’s. You’ll see how proud our Sweet Pemployees are to be contributing to the success of The Porch.
Together we can make anything possible.
See you at The Porch!
